But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you. Psalm 130:4 NIV

Praying for the Lincoln County officials: Lincoln County is governed by a three-person elected Board of Commissions. The current Commissioners are Kaety Jacobson, Chair, who began her second term in 2023. Claire Hall has been a commissioner numerous times since 2004, and Casey Miller, starting his first term in 2023.

Sheriff Curtis Landers is the Lincoln County Sheriff. His career began in 1987 and he has worked up from Records/Property Clerk through Corrections Officer, Patrol Deputy, Patrol Sergeant, and Administrative Lieutenant. In 2016 he was appointed Sheriff and is currently serving his second four-year term.

The headquarters of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians is in Siletz in Lincoln County. The Siletz Tribal Council is the Legislative branch of the government, the tribe being a sovereign nation. The Council has nine members, Delores Pigsley is Chairman; “Bud” Lane III is Vice-chairman; and Sharon Edenfield is Secretary.

Lincoln County, Oregon

I was actually in Lincoln County a couple of weeks ago, vacationing with a group of friends I’ve known for decades. We were in Yachats, which is at the lower edge of Lincoln County and a kind of jump-off point for a more scenic, wild section of the Oregon Coast. Lincoln County is still technically North Coast, but there are some changes in the geography that make it distinct from the more touristy North. Most places, the shoreline is rockier and, while sandy beaches exist, there are more rock-bound shores and dramatic wave action, including Thor’s Well and other fascinating shoreline features.

Yachats is the town built on an old Native American midden. We wrote about that here, along with the story of the Little Log Church by the Sea, which is now a museum. We missed Thor’s Well, Cape Perpetua, Heceta Lighthouse and other local sights due to a number of reasons, but we did explore Trail 804, a once-county road that, after a long legal battle, has been designated a trail for public use along the very edge of the beach near Yachats. Having once been a county road, it is wide and level, great for walking, and for viewing the wave action along this section of the Oregon Coast.

Continue to pray for Lincoln County. Since this is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the weekly tip from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is to encourage open conversations, empathy, and a deeper awareness of the signs of domestic abuse.
