The Secret Things

The news is hard to watch. I would say “like watching a train wreck,” but I’ve never seen a train wreck, so I can’t attest to that. There is a rather horrid fascination, though, with many of the dark secrets being revealed. It seems that evil is being exposed, sometimes in unexpected places. Light is being shone in dark places, and uncomfortable or shocking as it may be, I think the Lord is in it, opening the cellar door to expose hidden things.

How do we pray for our state at this time? Since we are trying to cooperate with the Holy Spirit, let’s pray for evil to be exposed – no matter where it may be. The Bible has much to say about this: For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.Mark 4:22

But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, Daniel 2:28.

One of my favorite verses is Deuteronomy 29:29: The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.
It is a favorite because it reminds me that God knows all things, the good and the bad. He will expose the evil and bring it to justice, he will give insightful revelations to those who listen and trust Him. He can reveal the secret to our thorny problem, and show us great and might things, but at this time the emphasis seems to be on exposing corruption and correcting hidden injustice. We seem to be in a time of exposure and restitution.

We are thinking of political things, of course, but any secret wickedness or evil alliances need to be exposed and brought to light and justice. Pray that they are.

If we are standing in the gap for Oregon, let’s cooperate with God’s move, and pray for the Lord to march all across the state, kicking open doors, pulling back curtains and shining His light into the dark, dank places.

P.S. Put my ballot in the ballot box over by the library today. We are down to the wire to vote in the primary, and I believe it is late to mail it now.

Prayerfully vote!
